What Happened?

The fire started in the Acme ceiling and quickly spread across the wood arch truss roof to the adjacent stores, which had inadequate fire walls.  The fire was almost stopped when it jumped the last firewall into the wood arch truss roof of the Ben Franklin.  The entire center was lost despite the valiant efforts of Pompton Lakes firefighters, aided by Riverdale, Oakland, Wayne, and...

Today, a brand new expanded shopping center stands where the old center fell.
